Το Τραγούδι του Πανάρετου (To Tragoudi tou Panaretou)

The Song of Panaretos

I’m thinking about the sky and all the beauties of the worldand dark and totally blind seems to me my sight.

For it is not possible for a body to be apartof it’s own soul and still be alive.

A bird without air, a fish without waterhow it is possible to retain the grace of living?

And who loses the love and friendship of a beautiful maidenand still has no death wish?

Often i sigh a lot and with much confusionmy tongue spoke those bitter words.

I wonder what hope and courage keeps me standing on this occasionand doesn't let the flame of my lust to extinguish?

I call the sky, the sea, the earth and the air,the stars, the bright sun, the night and the day,

I please them to be armed and to condemn methe minute that the lust of another maiden take over my heart.
