Темна нічка гори вкрила,Полонину всю залила,А в ній постать сніжно-біла, –Гуцул Ксеню в ній пізнав.Він дивився в очі сині,Тихо спершись на соснині,І слова ніжні любовіВін до неї промовляв:

Гуцулко Ксеню,Я тобі на трембітіЛиш одній в цілім світіРозкажу про любов.Душа страждає,Звук трембіти лунає,А що серце кохає,Бо гаряче, мов жар.

Вже пройшло гаряче літо,Гуцул іншу любив скрито,А гуцулку чорнобривуВін в останню ніч прощав.В Черемоші грали хвилі,Сумували очі сині,Тільки вітер на сосниніСумно пісню вигравав:

Гуцулко Ксеню,Я тобі на трембітіЛиш одній в цілім світіРозкажу про любов.Душа страждає,Звук трембіти лунає,А що серце кохає,Бо гаряче, мов жар..

Gone is the sultry, summer,Secretly the Hutzul loves, another,And the dark browed, hutzul girl, (blue eyed)In, the last evening he bid farewell.(ref. II a) *In the Cheremosh, the waves did play,Saddened were the eyes, of blue,Only the wind upon, the pine treeA sad song there, did play out.(ref II b)**
