I String the Town’s Lights Together
The bustling of the city, districts out in the country, contaminating the body, a weak ego shakes in its boots. While shouting something beneath the lead clouds, on the rebound, in this futile tragedy I think I’m drowning.“I knew there was no chance,” goes the favored line of the moron. If it’s really so bad, you could at least shed a tear.Today is as today does. The tailwinds fall by the curb of the road. The light shines on the other side. I wait with baited breath on the pier.
Should I head back or keep pressing on? Decisions so haphazard. Reality is always so cruel and unfeeling.Expenses and standing and future stability, all spin ‘round and ‘round life’s spinning roulette wheel.“This isn’t a fair fight,” come our words in desperation. But forced on our shoulders are the reasons we can’t afford to lose.A letter from another person. The promises made to our friends. The lover I was happy to marry. To some past version of me.
The city that loses people one at a time. No one to greet in the station at twilight. No courage, desires, ambitions to find. So why do I continue to live here myself?I limp from one streetlight down to the next. I string the town’s lights together to make a new constellation.Never stopping and never retreating, in earnest I string the town’s lights together to make a new constellation.
In the beginning was a dazzling, bright dream. Countless boys carried it with them into the future.Screwing up and stumbling while laughing and crying. Such youthfulness at our backs, we step into society. One after another, freeloaders increase in number. Children who cannot run away from the belly of immaturity. The few idiots who remain tend to each other*s bruises. I’m beginning to think the dumbest among them might be me.

So why do I continue to live here myself?I limp from one streetlight down to the next. I string the town’s lights together to make a new constellation.Never stopping and never retreating, in earnest I string the town’s lights together to make a new constellation.
When I look behind me there’s nothing but some pretty memories. I’ll keep on this detour until the day it finally saves me.So that I’ll become someone who’s conquered their past, and so that my future self will conquer today’s me,Whether I end up surviving, whether I end up left behind, I’ll never forget the many faces of those who left before me.Thank you so much. Farewell to you. I’ve tossed away yesterday. I run down a street littered with the petals of all the flowers.
