Jack's Lament (Korean)
That I’m the best, nobody can denyThat’s a fact everybody knowsScaring people in the middle of the night under a dreary moonlightThat’s a job I can do directly eyes shut
And if you add my quite fine-look, along with my actingEven adults do shake with terrorWhen I give a stir with my hand and moanNot to run away is beyond anyone’s power, yet
Always the same tasks, uneasy and monotonousNow even the sound of screams has turned dullRight me, Jack! The Great pumpkin kingI’m so exhausted with this routine
Oh, deep inside my bones, there’s an unbearable emptiness permeatingIt’s somewhere, in that far off worldI want to find this unknown desire
I’m the master of panic, I’m called the demon of lightI can scare you as much as I pleaseEven peasants in the countryside know me by nameIn Europe I’m definitely well-known
Moreover, since I’m dead, I can pull off my headSinging famous lines by ShakespeareWho might ever dare imitating my screams?
But once this is said, what’s the use of talking about it?Is there anybody who can understand the feeling of the Great pumpkin king? This scrawny king all bones and skull left has had enough of itHe’d only want to abdicate the part of the king
Oh, deep inside my bones, there’s an unbearable emptiness permeatingDespite honour and praisesI cannot help these futile tears
