Time On Her Side
The sea was large todayJust as any other dayBut something broke in meWatching on this winter’s eve.
Like a voice that I’d been trying to hidePulled me close and out into the undertow.
I can’t beat itOh! The sirens sing me homeJust can’t release itI didn’t have the strength to go.
She’s a garden rose and blossoms head to toeAnd even when she leaves her golden shadow stingsI can’t beat itEvery time she goes, cuts me even deeperIf only I’d the strength to go... like she does.
But she’s got time on her sideAnd she’s free to decideBecause she’s got time on her sideTo be young is divine.
And scaling the dunes to seaWhere the white wall feedsGets me no closer to peaceFrom the grips that she holds on me.
Oh! I can’t beat itEvery time she goes, cuts a lil' deeperSo the wound will never closeIf only I could beat itShe wouldn’t look away for woeBut it finds me when I’m sleepingAnd wakes me in a fevered low... like she does.
But she’s got time on her sideAnd she’s free to decideBecause she’s got time on her sideShe’s so free, it’s sublime.
I just wonder if I’m on her mindAs she’s on mine all the timeAnd I want her to know that I’m on her sideI’m on her side.
