In the Woods Somewhere
My head was warmMy skin was soakedI called your name 'til the fever broke
When I awokeThe moon still hungThe night so black that the darkness hummed
I raised myselfMy legs were weakI prayed my mind be good to me
An awful noiseFilled the airI heard a scream in the woods somewhere
A woman's voice!I quickly ranInto the trees with empty hands
A fox it wasHe shook afraidI spoke no words, no sound he made
His bone exposedHis hind was lameI raised a stone to end his pain
What caused the wound? How large the teeth?I sure knew eyes were watching me
The creature lungedI turned and ranTo save a life I didn't have
Deer in the chaseThere as I flewForgot all prayers of joining you
I clutched my lifeAnd wished it keptMy dearest love I'm not done yet
How many yearsI know I'll bearI found something in the woods somewhere
