The Arrival
He left work for a 2-week leaveOverdue for some rest indeedHeading north to a place upstreamWhere his wife and his son now waited to receiveOne quiet home deep in retreatWhere nobody would know where to reachIt was oh so sweet
But imposition of warfare would hit square and turn off delightAnd the shock had a force to inviteSuch a fear that would drive him to flight'Cuz it turned out his wife wasn’t safe on this nightA fear that would cause him to pauseAnd to pull from his draw his Benelli M4And to haul in his jeep full floorWith a vengeful jaw on an end life scoreBut before he could settle this he was bedeviled and blownBy the way she’d hung up the phoneHer last words now a droneThey had him feeling just oh so coldWe are not alone

Full search ensuesUp and down stairs through every roomA lay of the grounds brought views without vehicles or shoesHe was quite confusedNo evidence of forced entryNo signs of struggle, there’s no sign of troubleHe refused to accept thisHe would attempt connectionsNo, the search resumesIf no footprints then he knewEntry had to be gained from the chimney’s flueFrom the rooftop and trees he drewA path to the woods, now he left to pursue30 acres till the river brought it throughWith this much land he’d need a plane or a fewWell the Feds made it two and the search party grewBut nothing ever did yield any clues
