White As Snow
Where I came from there were no hills at allThe land was flat, the highway straight and wideMy brother and I would drive for hoursLike we had years instead of daysOur faces as pale as the dirty snow
Once I knew there was a love divineThen came a time I thought it knew me notWho can forgive forgiveness where forgiveness is notOnly the lamb as white as snowAnd the water it was icy as it washed over meAnd the moon shone above me
Now this dry ground it bears no fruit at allOnly poppies laugh under the crescent moonThe road refuses strangers, the land the seeds we sowWhere might we find the lamb as white as snow
As boys we would go hunting in the woodsTo sleep the night shooting out the starsNow the wolves are every passing strangerEvery face we cannot knowIf only a heart could be as white as snow
