The Sound of Eight Hooves
He's running through the woods so blackA loyal servant of ChristDogs are barking down his backHe's running for his life
He came with words of love and peaceThese heathens had to be savedHe thought that he could make them seeInstead he was enslaved
In captivity he spoke of GodTo all he met he preachedBut when his master's patience ran outHe knew he had to flee
Tears are running down his cheeksAs he's sobbing realizeThat in this land his god is weakAnd today he's going to die
He stumbles out onto an open fieldWhere an old oak tree growsIn the branches hang men of threeDressed in preacher's robes
His knees refuse to carry him onTerror shines in his eyesHis faith in Christ is almost goneHis god's left him to dieBelow the dead he says his prayersTo the god he thought was aliveWhen he hears a calm voice say:"Shut him up and hang him high!"
As his breath leaves his eyes open wideA bright light comes from aboveHe greets this light with a smileAnd thinks: "There is a god"
The sound of eight hooves reaches his earsComes from the heavenly lightTwo wolves howl fills his heart with fearAnd he sees two ravens flyDown from the sky a warlord ridesLike fire his one eye glowsAnd just before the preacher diesHe knows his god is false
